Level 2 MAPA® Trainer programme

Trainers who complete the Level 2 programme are taught to deliver up to a 4 or 5-day MAPA® course designed specifically for carers who may work with children, young people or adults who challenge, and/or present with aggressive or violent behaviours. The taught programme broadly contains five 1-day modules that aim to teach carers a specific range of ‘holding’ and ‘disengagement’ strategies. The Level 2 Trainer programme is designed so that participants can deliver any combination of the 1-day modules to meet the needs of the service; for example, a 2-day or 3-day course, as well as the 1-day personal safety course contained in the Level 3 Trainer programme.

Applicants to the Programme should be nominated by their employer with a clear commitment from their Line Manager to be released to deliver training.

It is desirable but not essential that applicants have experience of training or teaching other staff. However, the requirement for a recognised teaching/assessing qualification is likely to become a national standard over time and consequently, applicants should be working towards this if they have not already completed one.

All Level 2 MAPA® Trainers are required to complete an annual 3-day update and re-assessment programme in order to safeguard standards of practice, and to renew their licence to practice.
