MANDATORY TRAINER'S ANNUAL UPDATE & REASSESSMENT
All MAPA® Trainers are required to attend an annual update and reassessment course to promote and safeguard professional standards of practice; retain their currency on our database, and fulfil their commitments within any existing or prospective Positive Options BILD Accredited MAPA® Approved Training Centre (ATC) License Agreements established between Positive Options and a service provider.
Current BILD (British Institute of Learning Disabilities) national standards require Trainers to be updated and reassessed on a 12-monthly basis. Paragraph 8.6 of the BILD Code of Practice for the Use and Reduction of Restrictive Physical Interventions (2010) refers.
Some organisations commission Positive Options to deliver an appropriate annual 'Update and Reassessment' Programme for their own (Licensed) MAPA® Trainers. Where this is NOT the case, MAPA® Trainers can attend any one of the 'open' courses that are detailed below by completing and submitting the appropriate booking form.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE THIRD EDITION OF THE BILD CODE OF PRACTICE FOR THE USE AND REDUCTION OF RESTRICTIVE PHYSICAL INTERVENTIONS (2010)

Around half of all people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour are subject to physical interventions. High quality training, to increase staff skills and confidence and reduce injuries among staff and people who use services, is therefore critical.
The BILD Code of Practice provides guidance for trainers and commissioners of training who support adults and children with:
- a learning disability
- an autistic spectrum condition special educational needs
- behavioural, emotional and social difficulties
This third edition has been substantially revised and updated and provides an important point of reference for commissioners of services, those with responsibility for implementing standards as well as families, carers and all who are involved in supporting people who may be exposed to the use of restrictive physical interventions.
Price: £18
You can order this book from BookSource on 0845 370 0067 from 12 March 2010; you can also order this publication online from the BILD website - click here
