Level 1 MAPA® Trainer programme
This 40-day MAPA® Trainer programme is provided once each year in-conjunction with a West Midlands
University; currently this is the University of Wolverhampton.
The Programme is delivered and assessed at degree level and consequently, it is substantial in duration with equal amounts of time devoted to academic study and physical skills development.
Trainers who complete the Level 1 MAPA® Train the Trainers Programme are taught to deliver a broad range of MAPA® programmes designed specifically for staff who work in services for children, young people or adults who present significant and high-risk challenges. The Level 1 MAPA® Train the Trainers Programme includes a wide range of holding and disengagement skills, with additional provision to develop strategic and organisational approaches in the management of aggression and violence.
Applicants to the Programme should be nominated by their employer with a clear commitment from their Line Manager to be released to deliver training.
Ordinarily, it is expected that applicants will hold a relevant professional qualification and current professional registration; for example, nurse, social worker, teacher or other professional qualification and have experience of working with, and/or managing services for people who present challenging behaviour in the form of aggression and violence. It is also generally expected that applicants have experience of training or teaching other staff and possess a recognised teaching, assessing and/or mentoring qualification; for example, ENB 998; C&G 7308, PGCE Cert Ed.
If you feel that you do not meet the criteria exactly or fully but may possess experience that if taken into account might quality your attendance on the Programme, please speak to us before dismissing the opportunity. We would suggest that you make contact with Positive Options directly to determine any exceptional circumstances that might support your inclusion on the Programme.
All Level 1 MAPA® Trainers are required to complete an annual 5-day update and re-assessment programme in order to safeguard standards of practice, and to renew their licence to practice.
